An egg-celent day at MHOR

The MHOR team has hatched a plan to give you an educational and entertaining day learning the basics of small scale egg production and how to cook the essential dishes.

  • Find out what breed of hen is most suitable for you
  • Assemble a simple kit-form coop and run
  • Discuss the nutritional and welfare needs of the hen for optimal egg production
  • Handle the hens and get to know them
  • Have a great day out in stunning scenery

9.30 am The day will start with tea or coffee with scrumptious toast and jam at Mhor Bread in Callander.

Our Farm Manager, Alan Sneddon, will meet you there and, after a brief introduction, will take you on a 4wd tour of Balquhidder glen and Monachyle Mhor Farm. Here you will learn about the history of the glen, the Rob Roy legacy, agricultural practices past and present and the philosophy behind the Slow Food movement. You will also see how the farm is currently being developed.

We will spend around 1½ -2 hrs getting to grips with the chickens before lunch at the award-winning Monachyle Mhor hotel restaurant.

After lunch you will be driven back to the MHORFish demonstration room where chef-owner, Tom Lewis, will show you the difference between the freshness of laid-on-the-day eggs and the supermarket shelf impostors.

Tom will then show you the best way to poach your eggs, scramble eggs and create the perfect omlette. He will finish off with a devil of a chocolate mousse which you can take home to indulge in later.

We look forward to welcoming you to what will be a really memorable day.

PRICE The all inclusive price is £95 per person. Places are limited to a maximum of 8, so early booking is advisable.
