Highland Safari Tour

Balquhidder glen is a place of outstanding natural beauty, steeped in history and abundant with wildlife and rare plant species.

The 2,000-acre Monachyle Mhor farm has been the home of the Lewis family for 25 years and produces fresh lamb, eggs, beef and pork for the award-winning hotel as well as wild venison harvested from the hill as part of a sustainable management programme.

Why not join us for a two-hour safari tour of the glen ?

In our 7-seater 4WD vehicle enjoy a leisurely drive down the glen road with our Farm Manager, Alan Sneddon, whilst he tells you about the farming and forestry practices past and present and regales you with infamous tales of Rob Roy and the MacGregor Clan who lived here a few centuries ago

Along the way you may see red squirrels gathering food and sparrow hawks hunting the hedgerows. Occasionally, ospreys fish Loch Voil and swans and herons are a common sight.

In Balquhidder village, we will visit the churchyard and Rob Roy’s grave, as well as the final resting place of the Clan Maclaren chiefs and their gathering stone on the crags behind.

Later, we will venture off-road down to the shores of Loch Doine to feed the Highland Cattle alongside the remains of one of the oldest settlements in the glen.

We continue up the Monachyle glen where you may be lucky enough to spy the majestic red deer silhouetted on the skyline and even witness the rare glory of a golden eagle soaring high over the magnificent wild landscape.

Drink in the atmosphere and share a dram of Glengoyne Malt Whisky in the fine company of nature and friends.

PRICE £35 per person including a dram.
