Open seasonally 1st April until 1st October - Closed Tuesdays

The old Library Tearoom in Balquhidder village was built by a local landowner to offer his farmhands a more virtuous alternative to the pub opposite. Today, there is no pub and the library has been converted into a tearoom serving a not so virtuous selection of homemade cakes, scones and Scottish shortbread and tablet. A quaint forget-me-not-blue wooden building, there are white roses climbing the walls and red gingham cloths on the tables outside. Inside the tiny tearoom has a soaring, exposed wooden ceiling, an old sandstone and tile fireplace – complete with roaring log fire when the rain rolls in across the loch, and rough wooden floor. The wood-panelled walls are painted cream and duck-egg blue, while the shelves are stacked with pretty, mismatched china. A wide selection of organic herbal teas is complemented by rich Illy coffee and organic lemonade and fruit juices. To eat, there is homemade soup with crusty bread from the MHORBread, a range of sandwiches made to order or a filling Cheese Ploughman’s platter. For dessert you can choose from a full cream tea with freshly made scones, mhorish chocolate cheesecake or a selection of cakes made by the pastry chefs at Monachyle Mhor hotel including gooey carrot and tangy lemon and poppy seed. On sale are artisan breads from the MHORBread, traditional bannock and shortbread and eggs fresh from the farm.
